Find out how to get to Ephesus or Cappadocia

Turkey is a relatively large country compared to the countries of Europe.

Even though the country is small comparing to U.S., we have to know that there are certain distances between the most famous tourist destinations.

All right, Turkey is famous today among American for some tourist destination. Being them, Istanbul, Cappadocia and Ephesus are the most visited places in the country.

So how can you get in Cappadocia?

By plane: The region of Cappadocia today is divided between 3 official municipalities of the republic of Turkey: Nevsehir, Aksaray and Kayseri. In Nevsehir and Kayseri there are airports that daily receive Turkish Airlines flights from Istanbul.

Kayseri is an industrial city and therefore is busier. So there are more daily flights between Istanbul and Kayseri than other points in Turkey.

There are also flights from Pegasus Co. going from Izmir to Cappadocia on some days of the week.

What is the nearest airport to the tourist area of Cappadocia? Kayseri or Nevsehir?

This is a question we receive a lot. The most interesting places of Cappadocia are in the villages of Goreme, Uchisar, Urgup and Avanos. Even many of the tourist hotels are concentrated in these villages. Kayseri airport is 90 km away from the tourist part of Cappadocia, and Nevsehir airport is closer, being about 45 km from the main villages. We can make the transfer from the airport to the hotel.

As there are few flights coming from Istanbul to Nevsehir, depending on the time you will be in Turkey, you might not find any flights to Nevsehir. These flights from Istanbul to Nevsehir turn out to be quite crowded. If you could not find a place for you, we suggest you search for Istanbul — Kayseri flights.

By bus or car: From Istanbul to Cappadocia there are buses leaving from the bus station in Istanbul. It is a journey of approximately 850 km, so it’s good to prepare to stay in the bus for a long time. These buses go to the tourist villages, Goreme or Avanos. A lot of people end up preferring to do this bus trip at night, because they go to sleep and they can make the visits the next day.

Turkey has a good structure for tourism, so these buses are very modern and make daily trips.

The roads in Turkey are good. You can make this trip by car to Cappadocia as well. If you want, check out our itinerary options, we have options that we pass through other cities and we go straight to Cappadocia by car with the company of a guide.

How to get to Ephesus?

From Istanbul to Izmir, there are daily flights from various companies. Among them, Turkish Airlines, Onur air, Anadaolujet, Atlasjet and Pegasus. Ephesus is an archaeological site which is close to Izmir airport.

From the airport to the site is approximately 90 km away. We can make the transfer from the airport to the hotel. Many times, we started the tour from the airport. The local guide will pick you up at the airport and take you for the visits. So everything gets better and more economical.

Tip for those who go from Cappadocia to Ephesus or vice versa. Important!

One of the complications of making the journey from Cappadocia to Ephesus is the question of flights. Too bad that between two destinations there are not many flight options. Turkish Airlines offers tickets with a connection via Istanbul. But if you make this connection, you may miss the whole day at the airports. And even the price of tickets increases because of the amount of flights you take to make this route.

So this tip is worth a lot, honestly.

Pegasus Airlines is the only company that does Izmir — Kayseri or vice versa. Only there is no flight for every day. Because of this, I recommend to those going from Cappadocia to Ephesus, consider this option and suddenly plan the whole trip according to this flight. It will make travel easier both economically and for comfort and time.

Entering the Pegasus website you can find suitable flights for your plan. But beware that if it is not a day that has a direct flight, the CIA’s website can show a stopover in Istanbul that would make it spend the whole day at the airports.

If you go by car: You can drive the car from Istanbul to Ephesus too. The distance to Ephesus is 750 km, but we passed many beautiful cities along the way. There are regular buses that run from Istanbul’s bus station. Almost all hours of the night there are also buses from Istanbul to Izmir. If your destination is Ephesus, and you are in Izmir, you can also take a bus.
